The International Colloquium in the Philosophy of Science (ICPS) is a biennial conference that brings together philosophers of science from around the world to discuss the latest developments in the field. The 2018 ICPS was held in London, UK, from July 9-13. The conference was organized by the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and the University of Oxford.

The theme of the 2018 ICPS was "Science and Values". The conference explored the complex relationship between science and values, examining how values shape scientific research and how science can in turn influence our values.

The conference featured a keynote address by Nobel Laureate Steven Weinberg, as well as a number of invited talks by leading philosophers of science. There were also a number of contributed talks and poster presentations.

The proceedings of the 2018 ICPS have been published in a special issue of the journal "Synthese". The volume contains 18 papers that explore the theme of "Science and Values" from a variety of perspectives.

Keynote Address: Steven Weinberg

In his keynote address, Steven Weinberg argued that science is not value-free. He said that science is always done in a social and political context, and that the values of the scientists involved will inevitably influence their research.

Weinberg gave several examples of how values have shaped scientific research. He pointed out that the development of the atomic bomb was motivated by the desire to end World War II, and that the search for a cure for cancer is motivated by the desire to relieve human suffering.

Weinberg also argued that science can in turn influence our values. He said that the discovery of the laws of nature can lead us to a better understanding of the world and our place in it, and that this understanding can in turn lead us to adopt more enlightened values.

The 2018 ICPS featured a number of invited talks by leading philosophers of science. These talks explored a variety of topics related to the theme of "Science and Values".
