Gates boldly offered them MS-DOS (Microsoft Disk Operating System),which had been acquired from Seattle Computer Products. IBM accepted their proposal, and the rest, as they say, is history.

MS-DOS and the Rise of the PC

MS-DOS became the standard operating system for IBM and compatible PCs, giving Microsoft a virtual monopoly in the industry. Gates' shrewd business tactics and aggressive marketing strategies helped to solidify Microsoft's dominance in the personal computer software market.

By the mid-1980s, Microsoft was a global powerhouse, and Gates' personal wealth had surpassed $1 billion. He was not even 30 years old at the time, becoming the youngest self-made billionaire in history.

After stepping down as CEO of Microsoft in 2000, Gates devoted much of his time and resources to philanthropic endeavors through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The foundation focuses on global health, education, and poverty reduction.
